Currently in its third generation, Ford Escape is a moderately-priced crossover that packs plenty of power, allowing drivers to conquer the road. It’s also a classy drive, featuring luxurious exterior and interior components. Most importantly, it is highly functional, with plenty of cargo and passenger space.
The base power train for the 2018 Escape remains a naturally aspirated 2.5-liter, 4-cylinder engine that generates 168 hp and 170lb-ft of torque.
Available starting with the SE version is a 1.5 liter, 4-cylinder turbocharged engine that was introduced last year. It delivers 179 hp and 177 lb-ft. of torque.
You can opt for the range-topping 2.0-liter, 4-cylinder turbocharged engine that delivers 245 hp and 275 lb-ft. All the engines are mated to six-speed automatic transmissions. Turbocharged models have paddle shifters.
The Escape is offered in FWD or intelligent 4WD except for the base engine which is exclusively FWD. The 4WD system is designed to continuously monitor traction and road conditions every 16 milliseconds and capable of transferring torque from front wheels to rear wheels to ensure precise handling and traction.
Inside, the base S trim comes standard with a 6-speaker stereo system, cloth upholstery, cruise control, air conditioning, and a 4.2-inch display screen with Sync-3 infotainment system. Sync-3 is Ford’s responsive, voice-activated technology with Wi-Fi Hotspot connectivity. It includes a capacitive touch screen and navigation system that allows you to locate your favorite locations with ease. Sync-3 also comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
These convenience features expand as you move up trim levels. The SE trim adds satellite radio, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, heated front seats, and dual-zone climatic control. The SEL trim adds a power tailgate, leather upholstery, and an 8-inch infotainment system. At the top, the Titanium trim sports an upgraded 12-speaker Sony stereo system, ambient interior lighting, and a range of safety features.
There is plenty of cargo space, with 34 cubic feet available behind the rear seats and 68 cubic feet available with the seats folded.
